We have a son!
Andrew "Drew" Ralph Brown was born on Friday the 9th of January, 2009 at 3:00 PM. He was 11 pounds and 9 ounces and 22 inches long. He was delivered vaginally after a seven hour labor.

Drew, my wife and myself are all doing well if a little tired.

Back from GenCon
I had a lot of fun at GenCon. This year I took part in:
Immortal: Invisible Wars - Lot of fun tracking down a ritual killer. We found out that it was actually a love triangle gone bad.
Hunter: Release Tournament - I did all three rounds of this. Wrecking Crew did a very good job. Good level of horror, enjoyable NPCs and good story. After getting squirted in the eye with bleach I still managed to chop off my attackers arm and club him with a flashlight. Of course near the end I fell down the stairs and broke a leg, but most of the combat was over by then. The story was about destroying a cult. We managed that, and even exorcised the demon that tricked us (with out going back on our deal with it).
Ars Magica: Esoteric Society - This was different than the normal setting because we did it in colonial times. We were new recruits being sent to a existing cabal that had faded. It turns out that one of the members was possessed by a native american hunger/cannibal spirit and had killed and eaten two of the mages, driven one mad, and the last was gravely wounded and stuck in a mostly delirious state. We managed to heal the mage and learn what we needed to do. So we confronted and defeated the hunger spirit by using the very weapon it had used against the mage (a blood hungry arrowhead). One of the other players was a GM that I had played under in a previous Gencon so it was good to see him.
Quest Cards - was a new system I learned. It is actually more a card game, but it was in the RPG section and I enjoyed it.
7th Sea Larp:Dance Dance Montaine Revolution - All I can say is WOW. It was a great game. The story is set in a restaurant that also provided entertainment in Montaine during the populist revolution. They actually had people singing, a couple danced the tango, and others doing recitations of various speeches. This inspired a couple people to sing a song even though they had not been contacted ahead of time to do anything. Many of these people were either returning players or had registered on line and came in costume so that was neat as well.
I played the part of Charles Brown (they saw my name tag and insisted that I take the part). I was from Avalon but had barber shop in town (yes, I know my hair and beard is long, it is hard to barber oneself). In my back story, I had taken part in the Revolution because they promised health care and better food for us in the lower class. Well... the food never showed up and one day my wife got sick and we could not get a doctor. Sometime later I ran into a man in town who sympathized with me and said a doctor would be sent. On the way over the doctor was arrested for not having papers, the guards showed up asking if I knew the doctor. I said no, but pleaded with them to let me wife be treated, they denied me and took the doctor away. Within a few hours my wife was dead. Thus me hatred of the revolution I had helped was born. My land lady had helped me take care of my ailing wife. A while after the death she took me to the restaurant to try and lighten my mood.
It did not go well, I was in the restaurant when one of the leaders of the revolution showed up. To make maters worse at the very moment he entered a man fell dead at me feet. The man who had helped me earlier. He was drug into the kitchen and I followed him. It turned out he was faking his death because the woman who showed up with the leader of the revolution was his wife. I happened to have a small amount of glamor magic so I changed the man's image to that of someone who had been found dead behind the restaurant earlier. It was into this whorl wind that I stepped. I ended up becoming a go between for the man and his wife, getting involved in a plot to assassinate the leader of revolution, and having me land lady flirt with me. Oh did I mention the magical necklace I saw early on and spend the rest of the night trying to find. And those were just the complications from my character! We had different sects of a common secret society meeting to decide what to do to the revolution, a family that was fleeing prison (the man I had helped, and his wife) were they had been sent be a jealous sister (who was also at the restaurant), the nobles trying to kill the revolutionaries, and the revolutionaries trying to arrest the nobles, plus trade interests, and other secret societies. Alas we failed to take down the leader of the revolution even though I used the magic amulet to change my appearance to that of a guard to sneak up right behind him because his guards were willing to sacrifice them selves for him (and they turned in a huge amount of drama dice). However we did cause enough of a distraction that the man I had helped, his wife, a secret society that was against the rebellion, and my land lady were all able to escape. In a bit of karma, the sister that had betrayed the wife traded clothes with the wife so she could go to bed with the leader of the revolution, however when the leader of the revolution realized that the woman who was with him had stopped plotting to kill him, he decided to kill the woman in the morning.
Just wonderful!
The exhibit hall was huge as always. I saw a preview of the new Bioware game, Dragon Age - Origins. That looks like it will be a lot of fun. Suppose to be out 1st quarter of 2009. I purchased the last copy of the Pathfinder rule book available at GenCon (on Friday). Pathfinder is a cleaned up version of D&D 3.5.

I am glad to be back and be with Laura.

I am the gimp
I have a walking cast! Yeah! This means I can actually walk with out crutches.
For those of you just tuning in, on Sunday I fell down some stairs and twisted the ankle. I went to the emergency room and they gave me a fiberglass cast and told me to not walk on it. So for this past week I have been doing what I could to minimize movement. So we will see how it goes.

Well, I think we are making progress. At one point I had both Babe and Apple playing at the same time (different string toys) in sight of each other. Even petted both at the same time for a while, but I think that was mostly because Babe could not see Apple.

Tarot Quiz

Your Score: The Emperor

You scored 56 change, 76 wellbeing, 63 wisdom, and 61 truth

The Emperor card rules over the conscious elements set into the material world. The Emperor is an older, wiser version of the Magician, his knowledge at handling affairs in a systematic way has given him the seat on the throne. He is holding the world in his left hand and a T square in his right. The world is represented in numerology by the number 4 which is also this cards vibration. The T square is used in building and design, for mathematics and planning. This card represent the fashion in which things are done, a system to bringing things forth and manifest. Starting with one, two, three, then finally four, which is the building number, putting all things together.

Been a while

I have been doing well. At work I had a good review for the last year. I spent most of the year working on the integration of the Hollywood Entertainment systems to the Movie Gallery data. Next week I get to see if I will receive a raise. I am curious about that.

I have been playing WOW on Windrunner and my Dwarf is level 52. This is quite high for me, normally I switch to a new game before I get this high. I am in a guild with a bunch of people at work (CapreNox), but mostly I play with Kyrielle.

I am still involved with a bunch of Role Playing games. I currently game Wednesday, every other Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
Wednesday is 3 (soon to be 4) different games. I run a mid level D&D called Temple of Eternal Evil (took 5 years to finish the Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil module). I also run a 7th Sea game of Pirates. The third game is a low level D&D set in Kalamar, where I play a divine bard of the money deity (I have corrupted the druid in the party to always wonder what we are getting for any exchange and he is very protective of what we are getting for the merchant goods we carry).
On Thursday I am running another D&D game where players went through a portal to an alternate prime and are stuck there as the only members of the standard races.
On Friday I play in a high (soon to be epic) D&D game. I am a Rogue that has the Shadowbourne template (I hide very well). It is a very high power game.
On Saturday I play in low level D&D game that is a mesh between the World's largest Dungeon and Ptolus (the city with the largest reference book.) It is run by a very talented GM. The party is divided because half worship one particular deity and the rest are concerned that the church is taken too much of an interest in our explorations.

In the Temple of Eternal Evil game, Vengus the Frenzied Berserker, finally died last session. In only took a major onslaught of demons, that was so large that the rest of the party was driven from the room as he fought the waves of demons. Luckily the Wizard got a Dimensional Anchor to stick on the Demon General so it could not run away and Vengus managed to kill it before he ran out of rage.
The players and I had a lot of discussion about the Frenzied Berserker class. Some admitted to being more scared of Vengus then the creatures we were fighting. The player of Vengus said he would not mind dying as long as it was in a glorious battle. Everyone seemed satisfied after the session.

Well, I have run out of things to say for now. Good luck and be well.

Back from GenCon 06
I had a lot of fun at GenCon again this year. Have to remember to get Deliria Miracle Season again and also the World of Darkness Larp put on by Merciless Trio Productions. I had a lot of fun at both games, but I hope they do not overlap again next year.

Laura and I just got Married!!
Yep after 10 years, Laura and I are now Married. We had a civil service at the Clackamas County Courthouse. My parents, my brother and his girlfriend, and Laura's parents attended the ceremony. After that we headed to McMenamins Grand Lodge for a reception. It was a very nice reception in the Equinox room. (Bah, this seems so dry. I never know what to write. I am so happy now! It was a beautiful day and everything went well.) And now I am Married to my wonderful adorable darling Laura.

GenCon 05
Well we are back from GenCon 05. I had a lot of fun. Got to play Werewolf, Imp, Immortal, Deliria, Shadowrun, Marvel Saga, Ghost of Albion, and Exalted. As well as watch some anime and visit the dealers room.

It was a lot of fun.

Immortal has just released 3rd addition players guide it is available for free download from http://www.invisiblewar.com/. This makes me happy because I had been looking for this game but it had been out of print. Now I am tempted to run a game.

Imp was a new game by Neo Productions Unlimited (Independent game company). It is a very fun and simple game of mischief where since you are bumbling imps, failure is often more entertaining than success.

Deliria was an enjoyable adventure. Even if three critical successes by a certain someone in using their magic painting caused the GM to shake his head in disbelief.

I am already looking forward to next year's GenCon.

Color Quiz
you are lightcyan

Your dominant hues are green and blue. You're smart and you know it, and want to use your power to help people and relate to others. Even though you tend to battle with yourself, you solve other people's conflicts well.

Your saturation level is very low - you have better things to do than jump headfirst into every little project. You make sure your actions are going to really accomplish something before you start because you hate wasting energy making everyone else think you're working.

Your outlook on life is very bright. You are sunny and optimistic about life and others find it very encouraging, but remember to tone it down if you sense irritation.

Am I at work or On Vacation
Well, today sure has been interesting. I had today scheduled to be off. Then my manager had to take off for family reasons. Now that is pretty much all of the support for the Revshare department. We have a lot of automated jobs and data integrity reports that come up clean every day. So what happens. Not today both automated jobs and integrity problems appear. So I have been on the phone which various people around the business trying to get the problem sorted out. It looks like we are headed in the right direction. Now I just have to figure out what to do about the request for a report that is normally run by my manager. Oh well, it will all work out.

It snowed! I was so happy when I saw the snow. I was disappointed that by the time I got home it was not snowing and nothing was on the ground. Then I wake up the next morning to more snow. It was great. Of course it also means that roads are in so-so shape because since it rarely snows here there are few sander or snow plows. Most of it is gone, but it is still slick on some of the back roads. But the forecast says more snow tommorow!!

Take care.
